Review: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have always been a fan of stories about Abraham Lincoln because of his mysterious & awkward personality.. There were always the rumors that he was actually involved in the "supernatural" in real life. I was afraid to read this book because, already being a Lincoln fan because of ghostly books written about him in the past, I was afraid that someone was just gonna take it too far.

I am also from the south & while not a fan of slavery ANYWHERE, I also feared that the book was going to go to a bad place concerning the south.

I was pleasantly suprised & thrilled at the believability of the book. Yeah, yeah, vampires aren't real (or are they?). Haha. This book has so many historically correct features as well as seamlessly explaining how the major events in Lincoln's real life could have completely made sense had he been a vampire hunter.

The story is presented largely as a read of one of Lincoln's journals. Our 16th present has always been known for being a little strange & this fits perfectly with the book & the story explains his involvement with vampires as many of the reasons behind Abe's actual actions.

The words & thoughts that are in Lincoln's journal come off as perfectly believable as being written & spoken by him if you know much about the president. I found many of the situations & such humorous (dry humor perhaps, but I feel that also best represents Lincoln).

The slave owner's involvement also makes sense without being all "anti south" as I feared it would be. It is perfect.

The only thing that will make this better is to actually be able to see Abe work that ax in a movie!!

I most always think the book is better than the movies, but I admit . . . I can not wait to SEE some ax slinging, vamp butt kicking on the big screen!!

Very awesome & original idea considering Abe has always been surrounded by mystery, superstition, supernatural rumors, & considered a "strange" character himself. Excellent execution from start to finish!!!

  2. I really liked the movie, but I did't read the book. A friend who read the book said she was disappointed in the movie. So I wouldn't watch it right away, give yourself some time to let the book's awesomeness fade.
