The ADHD Advantage

The ADHD Advantage: What You Thought Was a Diagnosis May Be Your Greatest StrengthThe ADHD Advantage: What You Thought Was a Diagnosis May Be Your Greatest Strength by Dale Archer

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was very glad to see Dale Archer MD offering some positive, educational insight in The ADHD Advantage. It was good to know that Dr. Archer had inside experience with the condition that I have this far gotten so much negative feedback about. I received this book free for the purpose of an honest review.

I have never had to go far to hear all of the bad and negative consequences or behaviors associated with ADHD, but this book gave me hope as well as POSITIVE things I can tell my son about a condition that causes him mostly problems. It is refreshing to have some research that builds up your hopes for greatness rather than only points out the bad things that can or will happen.

Many people see ADHD diagnosis and immediately think hyper and troubled children. My son isn't even physically hyper, yet his brain never slows down. I can see where, with proper management, that could be an amazing asset. It is so hard to find positive direction to help children with ADHD and the doctors we have seen thus far just want to write a prescription and make it go away. I do not know what to do for him because of all of the conflicting information, medication pushing, & lack of knowledge and cooperation from his school.

This book is a great read for those who want to know the possibly positive things about ADHD, and it could help a child feel so much better to know the diagnosis does not doom them to failure.
