.
. . . but the book blurb sounded so intriguing and
promising . . . . .
With
such a great concept for a story - there were so many directions this
story could have taken – but didn't.
I
found the book hard to “stay” into due to the slow pace. The
pace did not pick up, it just crept along until it plopped dead at
the finish line. This book should have been right up my alley
of favorites... supposed to be ghosts, missing girls, murder, serial
killer... and a heroine obsessed with solving the mysteries.
There
are really only 2 main characters, Grace and Carl. Each seems to
have their own inner demons. While 1 tries to “find” the truth
and solve the mysteries, the other tries to keep the truth hidden.
Maybe he really does have dementia???
Grace
is obsessed and has an unhealthy long list of paranoia. Carl, the
alleged serial killer, has early onset dementia but is very cunning
and seems to remember all too well what he chooses to tell.
Pictures,
pictures, pictures.
Pictures
of mysterious ladies, young girls, of missing
girls . Pictures of the places they were last seen or are they
pictures of the places they were killed? Carl was a famous
documentary photographer, before being charged with the death of a
young girl (and acquitted). These are all Carl's pictures.
The
road trip..... an obsessed, paranoid young lady – along with a
creepy and cunning serial killer with dementia (or not). [ can I get
an Awe Hell No ]
This
story takes you places no sane person would go. It brings you fear,
paranoia, anger, and frustration, but leads to uncovering some
mysteries and resolving some personal conflicts. Big questions get
answered. Big questions don't get answered.
